5,000 Pakistani soldiers resign amid fear of Indian retaliation
Kolkata Police's Special Task Force (STF) seized eight pistols and six rounds of ammunition from a passenger at Sealdah Station on Monday morning. Acting on prior intelligence, officers arrested Hasan Sheikh, a resident of Malda, as he arrived by Hatebazare Express. The firearms were found concealed inside his luggage among clothes. Officials confirmed that the weapons were manufactured in Bihar’s Khagaria district, transported by road to Mann Singh in Bihar, and then brought to Kolkata by train.
STF sources stated that Sealdah Station has been increasingly used for arms smuggling operations. The firearms were likely meant for distribution within West Bengal, with investigators probing potential links to local crime networks. Law enforcement is examining whether the weapons were intended for gangs, illegal arms dealers, or other criminal organizations. Initial findings suggest the smuggling route was well-organized, with handlers ensuring safe transit through multiple states before reaching Kolkata.
Authorities are now tracking the supply chain to identify key operatives and logistical networks involved in the arms trade. Further investigations are underway to determine how many such consignments have entered Bengal, who the intended recipients were, and if any larger networks are operating through Kolkata. STF officials are also verifying possible connections between arrested individuals and past firearm seizures in the region. More arrests are expected as the probe continues.
