Police recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition during a late-night raid at a house in Berhampore in Murshidabad district. In connection with the case, police arrested Tuku Sarkar, wife of Asim Sarkar, who is known to be a close aide of city Youth Trinamool Congress president Papai Ghosh.
The raid was conducted on Friday night at Asim Sarkar’s residence in the Girjapara area under Ward No. 3 of Berhampore municipality. During the operation, police recovered three sophisticated 7.65 bore pistols, 90 rounds of 7.65 bore ammunition, 50 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, and four magazines from the house.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday afternoon, Murshidabad Deputy Superintendent of Police Sushant Rajbanshi said the raid was carried out based on confidential intelligence inputs. He stated that both Papai Ghosh and Asim Sarkar were allegedly present inside the house before the police team arrived, but they fled the spot after noticing the police operation.
