A massive fire broke out on Saturday afternoon at Kaveri Apartments in New Delhi’s high-security zone, located just a few hundred meters from the Parliament building. The complex, which houses several Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs, witnessed chaos as thick smoke filled the air. Firefighters received the alert around 1:22 p.m. and deployed fourteen fire tenders to the scene. The fire was brought under control by 2:10 p.m. after extensive efforts.
Residents described moments of panic as the flames spread to the fourth floor. A man living in the building said he suffered heavy losses, with valuables destroyed in the fire. He also mentioned that his daughter suffered burn injuries and is currently under treatment. “It seems children were lighting firecrackers, which might have caused the fire,” he told reporters.
Officials from the Delhi Fire Service confirmed that no casualties were reported. The fire is believed to have started from household materials. Local residents alleged that the fire brigade arrived late, though officials denied any delay. The Kaveri Apartments complex was inaugurated in 2020 and is considered one of the capital’s key VIP residential buildings.
