Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
A massive explosion ripped through a firecracker factory in Haral village, Champahati, on Saturday morning, leaving at least four people injured. Local residents rushed the injured to nearby hospitals as flames engulfed the building.
Eyewitnesses said the blast was so intense that several trees nearby were scorched, and the factory’s roof collapsed. Following the explosion, a fire broke out inside the factory, which firefighters are still trying to control.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the factory was operating illegally. Police have cordoned off the area and launched an inquiry to identify those responsible. A local resident, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “There were three consecutive explosions, and the victims’ faces were badly burned.”
This is not the first such incident in the area. In December 2024, another illegal firecracker factory in Sardarpara, Haral village, had exploded, injuring three people. Questions are now being raised about whether administration’s monitoring and safety measures were adequate.
