Abdul Malik, suspected to be the mastermind behind the February 8 Haldwani violence, has been apprehended by Uttarakhand Police from Delhi. Nainital Senior Superintendent of Police Prahlad Narayan Meena confirmed Malik's arrest, highlighting a multi-state search operation involving six police teams. Malik's son, Abdul Moid, remains at large despite extensive efforts to locate him.
The arrest comes in the wake of intensified police efforts to bring perpetrators of the Banbhoolpura violence to justice. Malik's alleged involvement in orchestrating the violent unrest following the demolition of an "illegal" madrasa underscores the gravity of the situation. With 81 individuals now in custody, authorities are pushing forward with legal actions against those implicated in the disturbances, including charging Malik and his wife Safia with criminal conspiracy and fraudulent land dealings.
