The third arrest has been made in the Hargobind Das and Chandan Das murder case that shook Samsherganj in Murshidabad. ADG South Bengal Supratim Sarkar announced that Injamul Haque, the alleged mastermind, has been taken into custody. He is accused of not only orchestrating the attack but also breaking the CCTV cameras in the area to destroy evidence.
According to police officials, Injamul played a central role in the planning and execution of the murder, which sparked widespread fear and unrest in the locality. His arrest comes as a breakthrough in the investigation, which has already led to the arrest of 274 individuals and the filing of 60 separate cases.
"Those involved will not be spared. We are committed to ensuring justice," said the ADG, affirming the administration’s zero-tolerance stance on violence and criminal conspiracy. Authorities have stated that efforts are ongoing to trace others involved in the incident.
Due to the unrest, many families had fled the village out of fear. However, the situation has slowly begun to stabilise. "So far, 85 people have returned home. We appeal to everyone to come back and resume their normal lives," the ADG said.
Heavy deployment of paramilitary forces and local police continues in the area to ensure safety and restore confidence among the villagers. The administration also assured that shops, which remained closed amid the tension, would reopen within the next two days. Officials confirmed that the situation in Samsherganj is now completely under control. The joint efforts of security forces and the administration have led to visible calm, and normalcy is gradually returning to the troubled region.
