Police have arrested the mastermind behind the shooting attempt on Trinamool Councillor Sushanta Ghosh in Kasba, Kolkata. The arrest occurred on Saturday in Galsi, East Burdwan, after an extensive investigation into the incident. Authorities confirmed that the attack, which failed when the gun malfunctioned, was carefully planned from a flat located in the Gulshan Colony area of Topsia, East Kolkata. The suspect, identified as Iqbal alias Afroz, is believed to have been the key figure behind the operation.
Following the arrest, police sealed the flat in Topsia linked to the attack. The flat, which had been rented by Afroz, was found locked after the incident. Investigators discovered that Afroz owned a total of three flats, two of which were rented out while the third served as the residence for his family. The flat where the planning of the attack is suspected to have occurred was located in Gulshan Colony. Neighbors reported that Afroz had been living there for about one-and-a-half to two years, and had rented out two other properties nearby.
Afroz had been seen by neighbors until Friday morning, while his wife and child were seen until Saturday morning, after which the family disappeared. The flat in Gulshan Colony was found locked, and the whereabouts of the entire family remain unknown. In addition to the sealed flat, police are examining the other properties linked to Afroz in the city. Authorities are also working to uncover the motive behind the attack and any possible accomplices involved. Police continue to investigate the extent of the suspect's network and the planning that led to the attack on the TMC councillor.
