MCD takes ‘bulldozer’ action on accused in Delhi's Uttam Nagar clash case; SC/ST Act invoked

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Sunday demolished illegal portions of a house linked to one of the accused in the Uttam Nagar Holi clash case, in which a 26-year-old man was killed earlier this week. The demolition drive was carried out in JJ Colony amid heavy police deployment to maintain law and order.

Officials said civic authorities arrived at the locality with bulldozers and removed only the illegally constructed parts of the structure, not the entire house. The area was cordoned off during the operation, with police and paramilitary personnel stationed across different zones to prevent any disturbance.

According to MCD officials, the demolition was part of an exercise to remove encroachments built over drains in the locality. Authorities said such illegal constructions obstruct water flow and pose risks during the monsoon season.

The action came after the victim’s family demanded strict action against the accused, calling for the “Yogi Adityanath model” of bulldozer action against unauthorised structures linked to those involved in the incident.

The clash occurred on March 4 in JJ Colony when an argument reportedly broke out after a water balloon thrown by a minor girl splashed on a woman, triggering a violent confrontation between two families known to each other for decades. Police have arrested seven people and detained a minor in connection with the case, while murder charges and provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act have been added to the FIR.
