The medical examination of the law student allegedly gangraped inside a Kolkata law college has confirmed rape and physical assault, police said. Conducted at Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital (CNMC), the report details injuries consistent with sexual violence. Doctors noted multiple bite marks, nail scratches, and other signs of physical force on the survivor’s body.
Three accused have been arrested in the case—Manojit Mishra (31), Jaib Ahmed (19), and Pramit Mukherjee (20). Mishra, a former student, is the main accused. The other two are current students. Manojit and Jaib were arrested on June 26, and Pramit was arrested the next morning. All three were produced before court and have been remanded to police custody till July 1. Police have filed charges of gangrape, assault, and wrongful confinement in the FIR.
Pinaki Banerjee (55), the college security guard, was also arrested on June 29 in connection with the case. Officials said digital evidence, including CCTV footage, is being collected. The survivor’s statement has been recorded before a magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPC. The investigation is ongoing.
