In a troubling development from Panskura area, men have reportedly vanished from a village, leaving behind only women and children. This unusual situation surfaced following the suicide of a minor student who was allegedly humiliated on charges of stealing chips. The incident has sparked widespread concern and anger within the community.
Opposition leaders have sharply criticized the role of the civic police in the area. Leader of Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari claimed that the civic police act more like party cadres and have become a source of fear even for the uniformed police personnel. He suggested that the civic police’s unchecked power has led to a climate of intimidation and lawlessness.
Adding to the criticism, State Congress President Shubhankar Sarkar pointed out that even the Inspector-in-Charge (IC) of the police station, responsible for law enforcement in the jurisdiction, is reluctant to take any action against the civic police. This failure to act has raised serious questions about the administration’s ability to maintain law and order and protect vulnerable residents.
The situation in Panskura has now become a focal point of political debate, with opposition parties demanding accountability and urgent intervention to restore normalcy and ensure justice for the minor and the community at large.
