Metro services on Blue line disrupted following power issue at Noapara

A major disruption in metro service caused long delays and chaos during the morning rush hour on Monday. The first metro services from Dakshineswar and Dumdum were delayed by nearly an hour, leaving thousands of daily commuters stranded and frustrated. According to Kolkata Metro sources, the problem stemmed from a power supply issue on the third line at the Noapara car shed, which severely impacted the morning schedule and threw travel plans into disarray.

The technical glitch was first reported early Monday morning, where a fault in the third-line power supply at the Noapara car shed prevented the first trains from commencing their journeys on time. Metro officials worked with "war-footing" urgency to restore the power supply and normalize services as quickly as possible, but the delays had already caused a cascading effect.

What was scheduled to be the first service from Dakshineswar at 7 AM eventually departed at around 7:54 AM, marking a significant delay. Similarly, the first metro from Dumdum also started much later than its scheduled time, further exacerbating the inconvenience for a large number of commuters who rely on the metro for their morning commute to work and other destinations.

Even after the services resumed, the situation was far from smooth. Commuters reported that trains were standing for an extended period at various stations, leading to overcrowding and a less-than-ideal travel experience. Despite these issues, the Metro authorities claimed that services were back to normal from 8 AM, a claim that was not entirely supported by the firsthand experience of the passengers.

Adding to the confusion and frustration, there was a lack of timely announcements regarding the service disruption, leaving many passengers in a state of uncertainty. Without clear information, commuters were left to guess the cause and duration of the delay, compounding their distress during an already stressful time.

While the "down line" (from Dakshineswar and Dumdum towards Shahid Khudiram) faced these significant problems, the "up line" (from Shahid Khudiram to Dakshineswar) reportedly operated without any disruptions. This partial functionality, however, did little to alleviate the suffering of the thousands of passengers traveling in the other direction, who had to face immense crowding and delays on a crucial weekday morning.
