Mirabai Chanu falls on her back, Asian Games campaign ends with a disappointing fourth-place finish

India's star weightlifter Mirabai Chanu experienced a heart-wrenching conclusion to her Asian Games campaign as she fell flat on her back during her final attempt to lift 117 kg in the women's 49kg event. The Olympic medalist's quest for a bronze medal came to a halt after two unsuccessful clean and jerk lifts, the successful completion of which would have secured her a podium finish. In a final dramatic attempt, Chanu's untimely fall left her in fourth place, concluding her Asian Games journey with a total effort of 191kg

Mirabai Chanu faced an uphill battle after her snatch performance, which yielded only one successful lift at 83kg. Despite several competitors lifting more, Chanu chose not to increase her weight, hoping to compensate in the clean and jerk event.

However, her attempts at 86kg ended in disappointment, as she could not rise from a squat position, leading to a fall forward. Two-time world champion Jiang Huihua of China set a Games record with a snatch of 94kg, significantly ahead of Chanu. North Korea's Ri Song-gum ultimately defended her Asian Games title with a world record lift of 124kg in clean and jerk, while Chanu's podium hopes were dashed.
