Missile fired from Yemen at Israel ‘most likely intercepted’, says Israeli Army

The Israeli military said on Saturday that a missile launched from Yemen toward Israeli territory was “most likely successfully intercepted.” The missile was reportedly fired by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement, which has claimed responsibility for multiple attacks targeting Israel since October 2023.

The Houthis, who control much of northern and western Yemen, have launched dozens of missiles and drones at Israel and commercial vessels in the Red Sea. The group says its operations are in support of Palestinians amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Many of the projectiles have been intercepted, while others have fallen short of their targets.

In response to the continued attacks, Israel has warned of imposing a naval and air blockade on Yemen if the Houthi assaults persist. Israeli forces have also conducted a series of retaliatory strikes targeting Houthi positions. The conflict has raised concerns over the security of international shipping routes through the Red Sea, a major global trade corridor.

The missile interception on Saturday is the latest in a series of military exchanges between Israel and the Houthis. While no casualties or damages were reported from the latest incident, Israeli authorities continue to monitor and respond to cross-border threats originating from Yemen.
