The body of a 12-year-old girl was recovered from a jute field in the Poyantur Kuthi area of Cooch Behar on Wednesday evening, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. The discovery triggered concern among local residents, while police took custody of the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.
According to family members and local residents, the girl left her home at around 10 a.m. on Wednesday and did not return. After several hours without any information about her whereabouts, her family, assisted by local villagers, began searching for her in nearby areas and possible locations across the locality.
At around 6 p.m., local residents conducting the search found the girl’s body inside a jute field. Following the discovery, a crowd gathered at the site as news of the incident spread through the area. Officers from Sahebganj Police Station reached the location after receiving information and began initial inquiries. Investigators are examining the circumstances of the death and are working to determine whether any criminal act was involved.
