NIA searches Saokat Molla’s home and party office, son questioned in Bhangar blast case
BJP leader and actor Mithun Chakraborty criticised the protest call by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee against the recent increase in cooking gas prices, saying global factors such as war can lead to rising fuel costs. Speaking to reporters at the BJP office, Chakraborty said that price fluctuations are often linked to international developments.
The remarks came after Mamata Banerjee announced a protest march on Sunday against the hike in LPG cylinder prices. The chief minister has accused the Centre of burdening common people with rising costs, especially at a time when global tensions in the Middle East are affecting energy supplies.
Responding to the issue, Chakraborty said that in times of war there is often a shortage of resources, which can push up the prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas. He questioned whether such global developments were being created by India and suggested that the state government was politicising the issue.
The BJP leader also spoke about the party’s organisational activities in West Bengal, expressing confidence about its prospects in the upcoming assembly elections. He said party workers were united and urged supporters to avoid confrontation, while alleging that the ruling party in the state was trying to create unrest ahead of the polls.
