Mob gives 'egg-therapy' to Hooghly panchayat leaders over corruption despite CM's warning

A violent protest erupted in front of the Bainchipota Gram Panchayat office in Singur, Hoogly, where an angry crowd targeted the Panchayat Pradhan, Mayawati Karmakar, and Deputy Pradhan, Nabakumar Bag. The local leaders faced severe public fury over alleged fund misappropriation from government welfare projects and fake reporting of developmental works. The situation rapidly escalated into physical confrontation before law enforcement intervened to defuse the violent situation.

During the demonstration, female agitators reportedly assaulted the female Pradhan by dragging her to the ground, beating her with footwear, forcing a garland of shoes around her neck, and throwing eggs directly at her head. The Deputy Pradhan was similarly targeted with egg attacks during the public chaos. Local BJP activists have been accused of inciting the crowd to carry out the assault, though no official police complaints have been lodged at the time of reporting.

Police personnel subsequently arrived at the spot to rescue both local leaders from the hostile crowd and transported them safely to the local police station. The incident underscores growing public volatility surrounding corruption allegations at the local administrative level, continuing a trend of egg-pelted protests against local representatives despite warnings from top state leadership.
