Narendra Modi, set to be sworn in as Prime Minister on Sunday, praised the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) as the "most successful alliance" in India. After the BJP-led NDA helped the party surpass the 272-seat majority mark in the general election, Modi emphasized governance by consensus and coalition politics at a meeting of newly-elected NDA MPs.
Modi highlighted that the NDA, with its members' 53 seats, pushed the alliance's total to 293 seats. The BJP aimed for 370 seats alone and 400+ with allies but faced stiff competition from the Congress-led INDIA opposition bloc in key states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Bengal. However, allies like Chandrababu Naidu's TDP and Nitish Kumar's JDU, which secured 28 seats, played crucial roles in the NDA's success.
Speaking after NDA leaders proposed his nomination, Modi expressed pride in the alliance's spirit and dedication to constitutional values. He stressed the importance of trust and the strong foundation that the NDA relationship is built on, marking the beginning of a new term with renewed confidence.
