Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized Congress during a rally in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir, accusing them of “indulging in brutality” after an India Today journalist was reportedly assaulted by Rahul Gandhi’s team in the United States. The incident occurred when journalist Rohit Sharma was interviewing Indian Overseas Congress chief Sam Pitroda. According to Sharma, Congress workers surrounded him, deleted the interview from his phone, and manhandled him after he asked a sensitive question about religious violence in Bangladesh.
Modi condemned Congress for this act, which he stated damaged India’s reputation on foreign soil and contradicted the party’s supposed advocacy for freedom of speech. He criticized Gandhi’s “Mohabbat ki dukaan” rhetoric, suggesting it was hypocritical given the violent treatment of an Indian journalist abroad.
The Prime Minister also addressed the Congress President, Mallikarjun Kharge, who had recently sparked controversy by suggesting that BJP leaders would have been jailed had the Congress won more seats in the last Lok Sabha elections. Modi questioned Kharge’s priorities and prioritizing punishment over governance and public welfare.
