Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress party during an election rally in Chhattisgarh's Mungeli, declaring the commencement of the countdown for the party's departure from the state. The focus of his criticism was Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, specifically regarding the alleged Mahadev betting app scam. PM Modi demanded transparency from the Congress, urging them to disclose the amount of money Baghel received in connection with the 508 crore scandal. The Enforcement Directorate, involved in the ongoing investigation, had recently stated that an email from a suspect implicated the chief minister in the bribery scandal.
In a fiery speech at the Vijay Sankalap Maharally, PM Modi posed direct questions to the Congress regarding the Mahadev betting app scam, emphasizing the need for accountability. The Enforcement Directorate's claim that promoters paid 508 crore in bribes to Chief Minister Baghel was further substantiated by a video shared by the BJP, featuring an accused in the case, Shubham Soni, who admitted to being the app's owner and providing proof of the payments to Baghel. Baghel, however, has vehemently denied these allegations.
Prime Minister Modi went on to assure the public that action against corruption in Chhattisgarh would be taken once the BJP assumes power. Accusing the Congress of prioritizing vote bank politics over the welfare of marginalized communities, he claimed that the party had consistently failed to uplift Dalits, OBCs, and tribals, attributing their actions to an unrelenting pursuit of electoral gains. Modi concluded by stating that the public's eagerness for the Congress's departure from the state was palpable.
