A mother suffered grievous injuries and lost both her legs while saving her six-year-old son from a speeding dumper truck in the Jagatballavpur area of Howrah. The incident occurred on Howrah–Amta Road while she was on her way to drop the child at school.
According to eyewitnesses, the mother and her son were crossing the road when an uncontrolled dumper truck suddenly approached at high speed. Sensing immediate danger, the woman quickly pushed her child toward the side of the road, ensuring his safety, but was unable to move away herself before the vehicle reached them.
The heavy vehicle ran over both her legs, leaving her critically injured. Amid panic and chaos at the scene, local residents rushed the bleeding woman to Jagatballavpur Hospital. From there, she was later referred to Kolkata for advanced treatment. Doctors were forced to amputate both her legs as they had been completely crushed in the accident.
The woman is currently undergoing treatment, while her son escaped the incident without injury. The incident has sparked widespread discussion in the district, with residents describing it as a powerful example of a mother’s sacrifice. Police have launched an investigation into the accident and are conducting raids to trace and arrest the dumper driver, who reportedly fled the scene.
