Police in Bihar have launched an investigation into an interesting case where a woman, a mother of two, started living with her husband's younger sister and then registered a case with the local police accusing her mother-in-law of "kidnapping" her life partner.
Police have launched an investigation after 32-year-old Shukla Devi claimed to have married her husband's sister Soni Devi (18) after rejecting her marriage to Pramod Das, a resident of Rosera block in Samastipur district. The couple married 10 years ago and also had two children, but the turning point in their lives came six months later when his wife married her sister-in-law and they began living as husband and wife, openly challenging existing traditional norms.
"We got married because we loved each other," Shukla told reporters. When asked by the media why she married a girl when she is already married to her husband, she replied, "Pati hua to kyha hua...Jahan prem rahega, wahin na rahenge (What happened if he is my husband? is love, we will stay )," said Shukla, adding, "We are very happy after marriage". "I believe the home of love is the heart. We both love from the bottom of the heart. There is no fun from the heart but true love. Soni is very sweet," she said. Her husband Das said he had no objection. "I am happy as long as she is happy," Das said, adding that his wife fell in love with his sister and started living with her.
Family sources said that after the marriage, Shukla Devi's wife not only changed his name to a man (Suraj Kumar) but also her appearance by keeping her hair short and wearing men's clothes to give her partner a 'husband' feel. The woman was also planning a gender reassignment and was researching the procedure, but after watching several gender reassignment videos involving surgery, she panicked and dropped the plan. However, as this news earned her in-laws a very bad name, they reached the spot and forcibly took Soni Devi away with them, leaving Shukla angry, who registered a case with the police. That's when the matter came to light.
"We are aware of this report and have asked the lady inspector to investigate the case. Based on the report, we will act on the matter," Rosera police station inspector Krishna Prasad told in a report on Tuesday. The inspector said the matter looked very controversial and said only a formal investigation would reveal the truth.
