"Kolkata to get Water Metro connectivity," says Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari
Political tensions escalated sharply in Moyna’s Bakcha area of East Midnapore after Trinamool Congress candidate Chandan Mondal was allegedly attacked during an election campaign on Saturday. According to claims by the Trinamool Congress, a group of miscreants targeted Mondal’s rally while he was conducting a door-to-door campaign, leading to chaos and injuries among party workers.
As per allegations, the attackers blocked the road and launched an assault using bamboo sticks, rods, stones, and bricks. Several supporters accompanying Mondal were reportedly beaten, with at least one worker sustaining a serious head injury. The situation quickly turned volatile, and injured individuals were later taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Mondal also alleged that he was attacked during the incident.
The Trinamool Congress blamed BJP workers and supporters for orchestrating the attack, claiming it was a politically motivated act ahead of the elections. However, the BJP strongly denied any involvement, stating that the incident was not carried out by its members and instead suggesting that it could be the result of internal conflict within the Trinamool Congress. The party also pointed out that Mondal had previously been associated with the BJP before joining the TMC, alleging local discontent over his candidature.
A large police force was deployed in the area soon after the incident to bring the situation under control. While tensions remain high in this politically sensitive region, authorities have begun an investigation to determine the exact cause of the clash. No formal complaint had been filed till later in the day, and officials are examining whether the violence stemmed from political rivalry or internal disputes.
