In anticipation of the mass Gita recitation event scheduled for December 24 at the Brigade Ground in Kolkata, a significant gathering took place on Sunday at the Mahesh Jagannath Temple in Shrirampur, Hooghly district. Shrirampur MP Kalyan Banerjee attended the program as a representative of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, where hundreds participated in collective Gita recitation.
Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Pradeep Majumdar inaugurated the event, and the recitation, preceded by the Vishwashanti Yagya in the morning, continued from 11 am to 12.30. The program witnessed the presence of notable figures, including MLA Dr. Sudipto Roy, former Governor Shyamal Sen, and various administrative officers.
MP Kalyan Banerjee emphasized the non-political nature of the event, stating that invitations were extended to several Trinamool leaders, but no representatives from the BJP were invited. Despite the absence of political figures from the opposition, the organizers expressed a commitment to keeping the event apolitical.
Banerjee clarified that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was invited to the event, and he attended as her representative, emphasizing the collective goal of promoting world peace. Temple head Sevayat Soumen Adhikari highlighted the enhanced reputation of the Jagannath temple and its chariot, particularly after Mamata Banerjee included Mahesh as a tourism center. Adhikari emphasized that the program aimed at the welfare of the country and the state, stressing its non-political character.
