On the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Barrackpore MP Partha Bhowmick attended a commemoration at Gandhi Ghat in Barrackpore, alongside West Bengal state Pal CV Ananda Bose. During this visit, Bhowmick addressed the recent tragedy at the Kumbh Mela, which occurred in the wake of overcrowding and mismanagement at the event, leading to multiple casualties. The MP criticized Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their failure to ensure sufficient safety and organizational measures during the religious gathering.
Bhowmick specifically drew a comparison between the management of the Kumbh Mela and the Ganga Sagar Mela in West Bengal. He highlighted the improvements made in organizing the Ganga Sagar Mela under the leadership of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Bhowmick noted that Mamata Banerjee's hands-on involvement in overseeing the event has led to more efficient arrangements, contributing to the success and smooth execution of the Ganga Sagar Mela in recent years.
The MP further emphasized the importance of proper planning and execution for large religious events to prevent such incidents. He pointed out that the Kumbh Mela tragedy could have been avoided with better coordination and timely interventions. Bhowmick's remarks underscored the need for robust safety protocols, especially for large-scale events where public safety is at risk.
