Kolkata Metro commuters starting their work week faced massive harassment on Monday morning as a major service disruption hit the North-South corridor (Blue Line). Office goers and students found themselves stranded at multiple stations as trains began running severely behind schedule right from the peak rush hours. According to irate passengers, multiple consecutive trains were abruptly cancelled without sufficient prior warning, leading to heavily crowded platforms and immense commuter distress across the city’s busiest transit network.
The service outage was primarily concentrated on the southern stretch of the Blue Line, specifically impacting the section between Noapara and Shahid Khudiram stations. Passengers traveling from the southern fringes complained that trains were delayed by several minutes, throwing their daily schedules into complete disarray. This unexpected morning bottleneck added to the frustration of daily commuters who heavily rely on the rapid transit system to reach their workplaces and educational institutions punctually.
The widespread morning delay follows a full-day scheduled service suspension on Sunday between Mahanayak Uttam Kumar (Tollygunge) and Shahid Khudiram stations. Metro authorities had enforced a necessary traffic block to install a crucial 'rake reversal' facility at Shahid Khudiram station, which currently functions as the corridor's temporary southern terminus following the ongoing renovation of the Kavi Subhash station. While the infrastructure upgrade was safely wrapped up, commuters alleged that the system struggled to stabilize on Monday morning, triggering a cascading effect of delays and sudden cancellations.
