Kolkata Airport makes history by welcoming first Giant Airbus Beluga XL
Mumbai International Airport faced a security scare on Thursday as it received a threatening email targeting Terminal 2. According to the police, the ominous email, sent to the feedback inbox of Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) around 11 am, warned of a bomb explosion within 48 hours unless a ransom of USD 1 million in Bitcoin is paid.
The email, allegedly sent by an unknown person using the address [email protected], has prompted law enforcement to register a case under Indian Penal Code sections 385 and 505(1)(b), related to putting a person in fear of injury to commit extortion and making statements with the intent to cause fear or alarm to the public.
In response to the threat, Sahar police have initiated an investigation into the matter. The threatening email stated, "This is a final warning to your airport. We will blast Terminal 2 within 48 hours unless one million dollars in Bitcoin is transferred to the address. Another alert will be after 24 Hrs."
The Mumbai police have taken the incident seriously, registering the case against the unknown sender and emphasizing the urgency of the situation. Security measures at the airport have been heightened, and authorities are working to trace the origin of the email. The demand for payment in Bitcoin adds a layer of complexity to the case, highlighting the challenges associated with tracking digital currencies in criminal activities.
