Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
Flight operations at Mumbai airport will be suspended for six hours on May 7, from 11 am to 5 pm, as both runways undergo scheduled pre-monsoon maintenance. The temporary shutdown will impact runway 09/27 and runway 14/32, rendering the airport non-operational during this period.
The maintenance work is part of the airport’s annual monsoon preparedness plan aimed at ensuring safety and smooth functioning during heavy rainfall. Authorities stated that the upkeep of the extensive airside area, spread across more than 1,000 acres, is critical ahead of the monsoon season.
Officials said that consultations with airlines and stakeholders were conducted six months in advance to minimise disruption. Airlines were informed early to allow adequate time for rescheduling and operational adjustments.
Previous disruptions at the airport have led to significant cancellations, with dozens of arrivals and departures affected in recent months. The planned shutdown is expected to help prevent such operational challenges during the monsoon.
