An IndiGo flight from Bangkok bound for the city was diverted to Yangon (Yangon), Myanmar, due to an on-board medical emergency on Sunday, the airline said.
The passenger was declared dead "upon arrival" by the "airport medical team", IndiGo said in a statement on Monday.
“IndiGo flight 6E-57 from Bangkok to Mumbai was diverted to Yangon due to a medical emergency on board. Unfortunately, the passenger was pronounced dead on arrival by the airport medical team," the airline said in a brief statement.
However, IndiGo did not disclose further details.
This is the second case where an IndiGo passenger fell ill mid-air during a flight and subsequently died. Earlier on March 17, a Ranchi-Pune IndiGo flight was diverted to Nagpur airport after a passenger had a medical emergency. The passenger was taken to the hospital upon arrival, where he was pronounced dead.
