Mumbai Indians secured their second Women’s Premier League (WPL) title in three seasons after defeating Delhi Capitals by eight runs in the final on Saturday. In a high-intensity match, Nat Sciver-Brunt delivered a game-changing performance, claiming three crucial wickets, including Meg Lanning and Marizanne Kapp, to seal Mumbai’s victory.
Batting first, Mumbai Indians posted a competitive total of 150 runs, thanks to captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s 66 and a solid contribution from Sciver-Brunt. The duo initially stabilized Mumbai’s innings after an early collapse at 14/2. However, a dramatic middle-order collapse saw Mumbai lose four wickets for just 15 runs, slipping from 103/2 to 118/6. Marizanne Kapp was instrumental for Delhi, dismissing both MI openers early after Lanning-led Delhi Capitals chose to bowl first.
In response, Delhi Capitals faltered under pressure, failing to chase the 150-run target. Mumbai’s bowlers, led by Sciver-Brunt, kept the opposition in check, securing a thrilling win. Despite their best efforts, Delhi Capitals fell short yet again, marking their third unsuccessful attempt at winning the WPL trophy.
Harmanpreet Kaur was named Player of the Match for her outstanding innings, while Nat Sciver-Brunt earned the Player of the Tournament honor. Sciver-Brunt also secured the Orange Cap for most runs, and Amelia Kerr was awarded the Purple Cap for leading wicket-taker.
Other season awards included Chinelle Henry for the highest strike rate, Ashleigh Gardner for most sixes, and Annabel Sutherland for the best catch. Shabnim Ismail was recognized for bowling the most dot balls, while Amanjot Kaur won the Emerging Player of the Season award. Gujarat Giants received the Fair Play Award.
With this victory, Mumbai Indians reinforced their dominance in the WPL, while Delhi Capitals continue their hunt for a maiden title.
