A municipal clerk was killed following a violent altercation at the gate of a civic office in Muzaffarnagar after he allegedly asked an e-rickshaw driver to remove his vehicle. The victim, identified as 32-year-old Chunky Bhardwaj, was attacked with an iron crutch and later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
The incident took place when Bhardwaj, who worked at the municipal office, was returning home from duty on Wednesday evening. According to reports, a dispute broke out after he requested the driver to clear the area, leading to a heated argument. During the confrontation, the disabled driver allegedly struck him on the head with a crutch, leaving him critically injured.
Bhardwaj was initially taken to a hospital in Meerut for treatment, where he died the following morning. Despite his injuries, he reportedly managed to reach a police station and file a complaint before his condition deteriorated. His death has triggered anger among municipal employees, who have alleged that more individuals may have been involved in the assault.
Police have registered a case and detained two persons in connection with the incident, while efforts are underway to identify and arrest the main accused. Bhardwaj, who had secured his job on compassionate grounds after his father’s death, was the only son in his family and is survived by his wife. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible.
