Murshidabad accident toll rises to 5; CM orders action against negligent gateman

A tragic train accident at Pulkare in Murshidabad's Berhampur Karnasuvarna claimed the lives of five people, including four school children and a cyclist, on a rainy Friday morning. The accident occurred at around 7:00 AM when a train struck the victims after they reportedly entered the tracks. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari expressed his deep condolences on social media, asserting that no negligence would be tolerated. The state government has announced a financial assistance package of Rs 5 lakh each for the families of the deceased and has assumed full responsibility for the medical costs of the injured victims.

Initial administrative reports revealed that the fatal accident was caused by severe human error and absolute negligence on the part of the railway gateman on duty. Following instructions from the Chief Minister, the West Bengal Police immediately arrested the gateman. Furthermore, strict orders have been issued to conduct a mandatory medical examination to verify whether the accused employee was operating under the influence of alcohol during his official shift. The state has characterized the incident as an unforgivable crime rather than a standard accident.

Local administrative officials, including the District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police, arrived at the accident site early in the morning to oversee the rescue operations. Minister Gaurishankar Ghosh visited the Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital where two injured individuals are currently undergoing critical treatment. State Health Minister Dr. Sharadwat Mukherjee is personally monitoring the medical care of the patients to ensure they receive the best treatment available.
