Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Eight children were injured, including one critically, after the roof of an Anganwadi centre collapsed in the Pathanpara area of Natungram Gram Panchayat under Murshidabad district on Thursday. The incident took place during regular daytime activities at the centre, when the children were inside the premises for play and study. The roof suddenly caved in, causing debris to fall directly on the children present.
Local residents helped rescue the injured children and took them to nearby healthcare facilities. One child, who was seriously injured, was referred to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment. The remaining children received treatment at local hospitals. Officials confirmed that the building was in use at the time of the collapse and was catering to multiple children as part of regular Anganwadi functions.
Murshidabad police reached the spot after receiving information, cordoned off the area, and began an on-site investigation. According to local residents present at the scene, the Anganwadi building had been in a visibly deteriorated condition for some time. They alleged that despite complaints regarding the building's safety, it continued to be used for housing children during daily operations.
