Murshidabad police seized more than 80 kilograms of ganja during a raid in the Shibpur area. Acting on a confidential tip-off, the police found the narcotics concealed inside a specially constructed underground compartment within a goods vehicle. Several suspects have been taken into custody for questioning related to the seizure.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the ganja consignment may be connected to an inter-state smuggling network using West Bengal as a transit route to other states. A special police team was formed based on the intelligence received to carry out the operation. The police superintendent stated, “We had secret information that a large consignment of narcotics was going to pass through the Shibpur area. Based on that, a special team was formed and this success was achieved.”
Following the seizure, local residents have expressed approval of the police’s efforts. The district administration has adopted a stricter stance against the rising threat of narcotics in Murshidabad. Authorities are continuing the investigation to identify further links and are expected to make additional arrests.
