Kandi police in Murshidabad have recovered a significant cache of weapons and explosives from the residence of Alimul Sheikh, a former member of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). The operation took place in Kumarsund Gram Panchayat and resulted in the seizure of multiple firearms, including rifles and pistols, as well as four live bombs. The recovery has raised serious concerns about public safety in the region, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the stockpiling of these dangerous materials.
The police action was initiated following a complaint received by law enforcement, which led to the decision to search Sheikh's residence. Officers conducted a thorough investigation and found various types of firearms and explosives during the search. Authorities have not disclosed specific details regarding the types or quantities of firearms recovered but are focusing on establishing the intended use of these weapons and any potential links to criminal activity.
In connection with the operation, three individuals have been arrested: Ilu Ahmed, Nazmul Haque, and Tajmul Sheikh, all residents of the Gokarna Bijoynagar area of Kandi. The arrests occurred shortly after the discovery of the weapons and explosives. Police are working to ascertain whether these individuals have any connections to Alimul Sheikh or if they are part of a broader network involved in illegal activities. Legal expert Rajesh confirmed that a formal complaint led to the police action, and a detailed seizure list was prepared during the search.
