Tensions flared during the cooperative society elections at Maharajpur S.K.U.S. Limited in Daulatabad, Murshidabad, turning the area into a battlefield. Voting was held for six posts on Sunday with 156 registered voters. Clashes broke out between Trinamool and the Congress-CPM alliance during polling.
The Congress-CPM alliance alleged that Trinamool workers launched attacks to prevent opposition voters from casting their vote. They claim violence was used as a strategy fearing defeat. Several voters were allegedly beaten up while approaching the polling station.
Serious questions have been raised about the role of the police. Eyewitnesses claim that despite the violence, police personnel stood by and did not intervene. The incident has left the local residents shocked and angry.
