Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
Residents in Uttam Nagar in West Delhi showered flower petals on police personnel after peacefully offering Eid-ul-Fitr prayers on Saturday, expressing gratitude for the security arrangements in the area. The gesture came amid heightened tension following recent communal clashes in the locality earlier this month.
According to reports, Uttam Nagar had remained tense after a 26-year-old man died during clashes triggered by a dispute over a water balloon during the Holi celebrations. The incident had raised concerns about possible unrest during Eid, prompting authorities to deploy additional security forces in the area.
A video circulating on social media shows two men standing near the road with a bag filled with flower petals and showering them on police officers and personnel from the Rapid Action Force who were stationed there. One of the individuals can be heard saying that the police had provided “full support” to ensure that the prayers were conducted without any disturbance. Officials had deployed police and paramilitary personnel across sensitive points in Uttam Nagar to maintain law and order during the festival. The prayers concluded peacefully, with the gesture by residents seen as a sign of appreciation for the security forces’ efforts in maintaining calm in the area.
