Animesh Das, an Inspector with the Nadia district police, was arrested on Thursday after a female constable accused him of molesting her in Chakdah, Nadia. The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday afternoon when Das allegedly blocked the constable on the road and molested her while she was on duty. Following the complaint, Chakdah police swiftly detained Das at the scene and later arrested him after questioning.
The female constable, in her complaint, stated that she had been subjected to repeated harassment by Inspector Das over an extended period. She had filed a previous complaint on January 21 at the Nabadwip police station, alleging harassment by the accused officer. After the latest incident in Chakdah, she lodged a formal complaint with local police, which led to Das’s detention and subsequent arrest.
Das has been charged under multiple sections, including molestation, illegal detention, and assault. Following his arrest, he was presented in the Kalyani Sub-Divisional Court on Friday. The police are continuing to investigate the case, and authorities are reviewing the earlier complaints filed by the victim.
