Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
Tension flared in Nagdi, Kanke, on Sunday as a massive protest erupted over the disputed land acquired for the proposed RIMS-2 project. Thousands of villagers, led by local leaders, confronted police and administration officials, sparking chaos in the area.
The administration had barricaded every entry point and deployed heavy security to stop farmers from reaching the site. Despite strict surveillance, villagers managed to gather at the land, chanting slogans and demanding their rights. Leaders of the Nagdi Jamin Bachao Samiti accused the government of forcibly acquiring land and vowed to resist the project.
The situation escalated when JLKM party leader Divendra Mahato and his supporters began ploughing the land and planted a Sarna flag, symbolizing their claim. Police responded with lathi-charge and tear gas shells to disperse the crowd, but farmers continued their protest undeterred.
The incident has revived tensions around land acquisition in Jharkhand, with farmers drawing parallels to past disputes and accusing the government of repeating mistakes. The administration, however, maintained that the land was legally acquired for the expansion of RIMS facilities.
