In a landmark administrative shuffle, Nandini Chakravorty has been appointed as the state's first-ever female Chief Secretary. A senior IAS officer of the 1994 batch, Chakravorty previously served as the Home Secretary before being elevated to the state’s highest bureaucratic post.
She will take over her role from the outgoing Chief Secretary, Manoj Pant. Manoj Pant has been appointed as Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The vacancy created by Chakravorty’s promotion in the Home Department has been filled by IAS Jagdish Prasad Meena, who has been appointed as the new Home Secretary of West Bengal.
