National Human rights commission seeks report on Malda women beating incident

The National Human Rights Commission has stepped in to address the horrific incident of two women being brutally beaten in Bamangola, Malda district, West Bengal.

The Commission has sent a letter to the Director General of Police, Manoj Malviya, and the District Superintendent of Police, requesting a report on the incident within two weeks. A copy of the letter has also been forwarded to the state's Chief Secretary, Hari Krishna Dwivedi.

The incident came to light on July 19 when a video showing the two women being stripped naked and subjected to a brutal assault went viral. Shockingly, instead of apprehending the perpetrators, the police arrested the victims and incarcerated them.

Allegations of theft were made against the women, but little action has been taken against the majority of the attackers. This has raised concerns about the state administration's handling of the case, drawing attention to potential negligence and injustice.
