An Indian Navy sailor undergoing training at the Panagarh Air Base was found dead wrapped in a parachute behind a factory at Barjora in Bankura on Wednesday morning. Petty Officer Chandak Govind, 29, was a resident of Vijayanagar in Andhra Pradesh.
"Adm R Hari Kumar CNS and all personnel of the Indian Navy pay tribute to Chandaka Govind, Petty Officer who lost his life while training at Panagarh on 05/04/23 and extend our sincere condolences to the bereaved family," the defense statement said.
After receiving information from the local police from Bankura, they rushed Govind to the local hospital where he was declared brought dead. His family has been informed of his death.
"Prima facie, it appears that the young man lost control of the parachute during the exercise and died," said Vaibhav Tiwari, Senior Superintendent of Police, Bankura.
