Nawshad Siddique alleges major corruption in Bengal Hajj inspector recruitment, approaches Court and Central Govt

West Bengal MLA Nawshad Siddique has accused the state government of corruption in the recruitment of Hajj inspectors. He claimed that many individuals were appointed as Hajj inspectors without appearing for the required written examination or undergoing the mandatory training in Mumbai. Siddique said that trained and qualified candidates were sidelined while unqualified people were given the posts.

According to the recruitment procedure, government employees who wish to apply must submit their applications and then appear for a written test. Those who pass the exam receive two days of training in Mumbai, which can be extended if necessary. Only after completing the exam and training successfully are candidates appointed as Hajj inspectors responsible for overseeing pilgrims.

This year, about 5,400 pilgrims from West Bengal are expected to perform Hajj. Siddique stated, “We saw that from the prepared list, 12-13 people were removed and replaced by new appointees who did not undergo any training. The people being sent are illegal.” He further explained that one inspector is assigned for every 150 pilgrims as per rules.

Siddique said he has informed the Central Hajj Committee and the Ministry of Minority Affairs about the issue but did not receive a satisfactory response. Consequently, he has approached the courts to seek intervention and resolution on the matter.
