Bihar's National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has set in motion the process to remove Assembly Speaker Awadh Bihari Choudhary on Monday, marking a significant development a day after Nitish Kumar's reinstallation as the Chief Minister within the BJP-led alliance.
According to BJP leader Nand Kishore Yadav, who is anticipated to succeed Choudhary, the notice for the speaker's removal is in adherence to established norms. Yadav explained, "The speaker, as per procedure, must be from the ruling dispensation. If the current speaker resigns voluntarily, it's acceptable; otherwise, the matter will be deliberated upon after a 14-day period."
With the NDA commanding the support of 128 lawmakers in the 243-member assembly, the alliance is poised to secure the appointment of its candidate for the crucial position in case of a vote division.
Choudhary, the incumbent speaker, remained unavailable for comments, with his aide citing health issues as the reason for his inability to engage in discussions.
