In yet another tragic incident, a student from West Bengal has taken his own life in Kota, Rajasthan, marking the 28th suicide in the city this year. Kota is renowned as a major coaching hub for competitive exams, attracting students from across India.
Forid, a resident of West Bengal, was residing in Kota's Waqf Nagar area and preparing for the NEET exam, the all-India entrance test for medical education. He was discovered hanging in his room, and despite being rushed to the hospital, he was declared dead on arrival.
Witnesses, fellow students in the rented accommodation, reported seeing Forid for the last time at 4 pm. Concerned when he didn't emerge from his room and failed to respond to calls, they raised an alarm, prompting the landlord to contact the police. As of now, no suicide note has been found, and the student's family has been informed.
The rising number of suicides in Kota has prompted discussions on the mental health challenges students face, driven by the intense pressure of academic competition. In response, the state government had issued guidelines for coaching centers last year, emphasizing the need to implement measures to alleviate stress among students.
