Nepal interim PM’s husband to be flown to Delhi as condition shows no improvement

Nepal’s Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki’s husband, Durga Prasad Subedi, 74, is set to be flown to New Delhi for further medical treatment after showing no improvement at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.

Subedi was admitted last Thursday with multiple health concerns, including a urinary tract infection, low sodium levels, and stomach-related issues. Hospital sources confirmed that despite extensive treatment, his condition remained unchanged.

Doctors conducted CT scans, MRI tests, and other examinations to determine the cause of his illness, but no specific diagnosis was reached. Interim Prime Minister Karki’s personal doctor, Man Bahadur KC, confirmed the family decided to seek a second opinion in India.

Subedi, a former youth leader of the Nepali Congress, met Karki while studying at Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Beyond his political work, he was involved in Nepal’s first plane hijacking 53 years ago, an operation aimed at raising funds for a political struggle against the monarchy.

The 1973 hijacking involved Seizing a Royal Nepal Airlines flight carrying NRs 30 lakh, which was forced to land in Forbesganj, Bihar. Subedi later recounted the incident in his book Biman Bidroha, reflecting his long-standing role in Nepal’s political history.
