Disruption in metro services between Dumdum and Dakshineswar; normal services resume after 2 hours
Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has lost a crucial vote of confidence in Parliament, following the withdrawal of support by the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML). The motion moved by Prachanda received only 63 votes in favor out of 275, with a significant 194 members opposing it and one abstaining.
This marks the end of Prachanda's third tenure, characterized by frequent coalition changes, despite surviving previous confidence votes. CPN-UML chairman K P Sharma Oli, backed by the Nepali Congress, is now poised to take charge as the new Prime Minister.
Following the vote, Oli and Nepali Congress chief Sher Bahadur Deuba are expected to meet President Ram Chandra Poudel jointly to stake their claim, supported by 167 members in the House, to form the new government. The incoming government must secure another vote of confidence within 30 days of formation to consolidate its position.
