New Town man stabs cousin to death over alleged land dispute, held by police

A man allegedly stabbed his cousin to death in the Hatiara Paschim Para area of New Town on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred around 4 PM when Shafiqul Noor Islam alias Babu reportedly began hurling abuses in front of his cousin Sheikh Nafiz Ahmed alias Bacchu’s house. When Bacchu protested, Babu allegedly stabbed him in the stomach with a knife.

Local residents stated that Babu was often seen carrying a knife. After the stabbing, Bacchu collapsed on the spot and was immediately taken to a private hospital in Baguiati. He was declared dead during treatment due to severe abdominal injuries. Police from Eco Park police station reached the scene after receiving information and initiated an investigation.

According to police sources, preliminary findings suggest that a land-related conflict between the two cousins had been ongoing for a considerable period. Officials are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to reconstruct the sequence of events. The exact reason behind the attack is yet to be confirmed.

Police have detained the accused, Shafiqul Noor Islam alias Babu, and are questioning him regarding the incident. Investigators are verifying whether the murder was connected solely to the property dispute or if there were other contributing factors. Further investigation is underway.
