Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
Biswajit Mandal has confessed to killing his wife, Itika Mandal, inside a guest house room in New Town’s Saha Market area. During police interrogation, Biswajit stated that he had discovered intimate photographs of his wife with other men on her mobile phone. He told officers that the issue had led to frequent arguments between them prior to the incident.
After checking into the guest house, the couple reportedly had another argument on the same subject. According to police sources, Itika allegedly demanded ₹10,000 every month from Biswajit and said she would do whatever she wanted if he didn’t agree. In response, Biswajit threatened her by placing a belt around her neck and said, “Change yourself, or I will kill you.” Police said Itika replied, “Do whatever you want,” following which he strangled her to death with the belt.
After committing the murder, Biswajit called emergency helpline number 100 and informed authorities about the incident. He also recorded a video on his mobile phone stating the reason behind the murder. Police arrested him from the New Town area before he could flee. Forensic teams examined the scene, and the body was sent for post-mortem. Investigators are collecting evidence and verifying the sequence of events.
