On Wednesday morning, a newborn’s body was found near the railway tracks close to Malda Medical College and Hospital. The infant was wrapped in red clothes, and a bag was discovered beside the body. Railway police were alerted immediately and reached the spot to secure the body and begin an investigation.
Local residents suspect that the newborn may have been brought from a nearby hospital or private nursing home before being abandoned at the location. Authorities have started reviewing records of nearby medical facilities as part of their ongoing investigation.
Residents expressed concern over the incident. Local resident Durga Pal said, “After death, the body could have been buried. This way of discarding it is extremely inhumane. Dogs or crows could have torn it apart.” Shopkeeper Ajit Prasad added, “Such incidents have happened in our area before. Strict monitoring of the medical college and private nursing homes is necessary.”
