A Bengali couple was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel room in Chennai, sparking shock and triggering a police investigation into whether it was a case of murder or suicide. The deceased have been identified as Rizwan Mollah (27), a resident of Amta in Howrah, and his wife Tajmira Khatun (23), from Kamalpur in Diamond Harbour.
The couple had reportedly moved to Chennai for work. Rizwan had taken up a job at the hotel where he was staying, and Tajmira was reportedly working there as a maid. According to hotel staff, Rizwan called his wife to his room on Monday morning. When the door remained locked for hours, staff grew suspicious and alerted the police.
Upon breaking open the door, police found Rizwan hanging from the ceiling while Tajmira was lying motionless on the floor. Investigators have yet to confirm whether she died by suicide or was killed before Rizwan ended his life. Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and forensic teams have collected samples from the room.
Sources close to the couple stated that they had been married for about a year and shared a seemingly happy relationship. However, the sudden tragedy has left both families devastated and seeking answers about what led to the horrific end.
The police are currently examining phone records, CCTV footage, and conducting interviews with hotel staff to piece together the events leading up to the incident.
